Have you ever wanted to become a transcriptionist but do no have any experience? What about work in your PJ’s, set your own hours, and work from wherever you want? Who doesn’t! As a transcriptionist, you will type what you hear in a file and submit it for reimbursement.
It’s not as easy as it sounds. To make good income you have to be able to pay attention to detail, be quick on a keyboard, and be an extremely good listener. You may have to decipher through background noise and two or more individuals speaking. Although the companies have made it possible to add crosstalk and inaudible timestamps, it is still not acceptable to add 20 of these timestamps to each file you submit. You may have to replay through the audio a few times to understand just what the person is saying. However, I thought the transcription software provided was easy and made my work easier. I also found that I improved a great bit with time and practice. Don’t let me talk you out of it. I highly recommend you give it a try. They each have a set of rules and guidelines regarding ellipses, commas, stutters, etc. that you will learn before you can start. You will be required to pass a transcription test and possibly a few other tests. They may also ask you for references and you may have to give authorization for a background check.
